Visceral Manipulation

  • What is Visceral Manipulation?

Visceral Manipulation encourages movement within the body to enhance our well-being. Restrictions between and within the inner organs, fascia, connective tissues and structures of the body will impair function and limit range of motion with associated structures.  Ultimately with the gentle hands on modality of Visceral Manipulation (VM) the practitioner, generally a physical or massage therapist, encourages the body will be invited to auto correct. A treatment may only last 20 minutes or less.  The client may be fully clothed, exposing only their abdomen. The practitioner will begin with a general listening by placing their hand upon the client’s head to feel for the restrictions within the body. This may be followed by a local listening with their hands on the abdomen to determine the precise primary restriction.    The service may be offered in a seated, supine (laying down face up) or kneeling position.  Ideally this hands on treatment will reawaken the neurotransmitter response within the body and the body to return to its natural balance following the session.  The client may feel immediate relief and/or notice a gradual change. Visceral manipulation compliments massage therapy, Thai massage and private yoga sessions
