SUP Yoga

Yoga on paddleboards is often referred to as SUP Yoga for Stand Up Paddle Yoga. This fun form of yoga provides an experience to enjoy the great outdoors, enhance your awareness and challenge your balance. Feel the breezs, see the blue skies and hear the birds sing.

Each session is intended to be all inclusive experience to encourage participation of the group, therefore, each class may be a bit different from the next. You can participate with no yoga experience or of oodles of it, some experience on the board or a newbie. You will be honored for where you are at on your path and inspired to grow.

Each session will encourage you to maintain awareness to your breath and your surroundings.  Explore the duality of balance with the waves of external influence and internal perception. The Stand Up Paddleboard offers a beautiful and inspiring context for yoga.

While the experience of doing yoga on paddleboards is serine, it asks us to move beyond our comfort zones and challenges our balance. Performing postures on the boards we challenge what we what you believe we are capable of.  The surroundings,  such as the ripple of the waves, the other boards near us or the shoreline, can be a challenge or an inspiration. We may try a pose that allows us to fly or enjoy into the water. Unlike, other forms of fitness or water sports; there is no goal or end result to achieve. Paddle boarding and yoga offers an opportunity to remain present and enjoy the journey.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding Chesapeake Beach

  • How do I prepare for my SUP Yoga class?

Please prepare yourself for an outdoor activity. Keep in mind that you just might get wet! Ideally, wear your swimsuit or similar clothing that does not restrict your movement. You may want to bring a change of clothes and dry towel to leave in your vehicle while we are out on the water. Use your best judgment; wear sunscreen and/or insect repellant if need be. Please bring water to drink and your keys can be locked while we are in session.
Ideally, arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your class start time for the Chesapeake Beach location or 20 minutes for the Quiet Waters location. This will give you more time on the water. Use this time to prepare yourself for your class and fill out a health history form or take a stroll down the harness Creek Trail for the Quiet Waters location. (Note that Quiet Waters Park charges a park entrance fee.) Your health history form allows you to share your injuries and or health concerns to ensure your safety. That said, keep in mind that postures are suggestions. Please listen to your body and allow your body to be your guide.  Please ask your instructor prior to or during your session if you have any questions.

Please email cristalrae@massagetherapy.com for registration and questions.
